A popular political analyst and opposition coalition chieftain, Salihu Moh. Lukman, has revealed details of consultations among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement on Wednesday, Lukman said the consultations aimed at uniting the opposition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election involved Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Governor Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Mr Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Prince Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Mr Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
He said the move was aimed at presenting a united opposition candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The consultations represent a practical step towards giving effect to those resolutions. They provide an opportunity for party leaders and presidential candidates to deliberate on the framework for opposition cooperation, identify areas of common ground and consider the steps necessary to advance a shared democratic agenda ahead of 2027.
“At the heart of this process is the conviction that the challenges confronting Nigeria demand serious engagement across party lines. Nigerians deserve political leaders who are prepared to place the country’s future, the well-being of its citizens and the credibility of its elections above narrow interests.
“Nigerians will be informed of substantive decisions and agreed next steps as the deliberations progress,” he stated.
