Girona returned from the Canary Islands with a draw that leaves a bittersweet taste. The red-and-whites took an early lead but were unable to maintain their advantage against a Tenerife side that reacted and ended up equalizing the match.
Yáser Asprilla opened the scoring in the 4th minute, taking advantage of a defensive lapse by the home team. The start suggested a good night for Girona, but Tenerife gradually gained ground and found their reward in the 25th minute. Nacho Gil delivered a fine cross, and Enric Gallego headed in to make it 1-1.
Before halftime, Girona had a clear chance to regain the lead. Abel Ruiz headed from a favorable position, but Dani Martín denied the goal with a great save.
In the second half, the match evened out, and chances were scarce. Girona tried to turn the situation around with substitutions, including the introduction of Bryan Gil and Donny van de Beek, but they lacked depth to create enough danger. Additionally, Paulo Gazzaniga was replaced by Vladyslav Krapyvtsov after the break due to discomfort.
In the final stages, Tenerife pushed for the win, and Enric Gallego even scored in added time, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The draw leaves Girona with the feeling of having missed a good opportunity. Asprilla's early goal and Abel Ruiz's chance could have tipped the match in their favor, but the home side's response and a lack of precision prevented them from securing all three points. It's a point gained, but Girona will need to keep improving to stay in the fight for promotion.
