Divya Vinekar, Alia Bhatt’s ‘Darlings’ co-star, passes away

Actress and content creator Divya Vinekar, who appeared alongside Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah in the 2022 film Darlings, passed away on Tuesday. Her friend and popular radio jockey, Rohini Ramnathan, broke the news of her demise.

“It is with utmost sadness and shock that I have to inform all those who love/adore our DV, @divyavinekar left for heavenly abode today. It was sudden and unexpected. The family and the ones whose lives she touched daily with her grace and love are dealing. Enquiries at this moment could be avoided,” Ramnathan wrote in her Instagram post.

“DV, as we know her fondly, was a pillar to me personally and professionally for all of us at Fever FM. Her work ethic, her kindness and her knowledge made her one of her kind. You'll be missed baby, go well. Thank you for being a part of us. We were blessed to have her,” she added.

In the 2022 dark comedy Darlings, Divya played a female police constable, sharing the screen with Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Varma. Directed by Jasmeet K Reen, the film marked Alia Bhatt's feature-film debut as a producer, backed by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under the banners of Eternal Sunshine Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment.

Alongside Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Varma, the film also featured Roshan Mathew. Darlings centered on a housewife (played by Bhatt) who, pushed to her limits by severe domestic abuse at the hands of her husband (played by Varma), seeks revenge in a dark and bloody turn of events. Released globally on Netflix on August 5, 2022, the film earned widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics.

Divya’s film credits also include the 2022 thriller Jalsa, starring Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah.
