Croatia’s Rimac Technology is moving into another area of advanced engineering through a partnership with ECOBLOX aimed at supplying technology for artificial intelligence data centres.
The two companies signed an agreement last week, combining Rimac Technology’s battery and power electronics expertise with ECOBLOX’s data centre architecture and AI infrastructure systems
The project aims to address some of the main challenges facing AI infrastructure development, including increasing electricity demand, cooling requirements and the availability of suitable locations for deployment.
The companies are developing an integrated modular solution that brings together energy storage, power conversion, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), precision cooling and IT infrastructure within a compact unit.
Rimac battery technology enters AI infrastructure
The system will incorporate Rimac Technology’s UNI battery modules, developed using the company’s experience in high-voltage engineering and automotive battery systems.
The modules are designed to provide backup power for critical computing equipment, with an emphasis on safety, thermal management and ease of maintenance.
A Battery Management System will monitor and control battery performance in real time, transmitting operational data to ECOBLOX’s Data Centre Infrastructure Management platform. This will enable centralised monitoring, automated alerts and data analytics.
The companies are also developing solutions suited to the evolving power requirements of AI computing, including 400-volt and 800-volt direct current (DC) architectures.
As demand for computing capacity grows, data centre operators face increasing pressure to secure sufficient power and deploy infrastructure capable of supporting energy-intensive workloads.
Rimac Technology’s battery systems, originally developed for demanding automotive applications, are now being adapted for use in this expanding market.
Installation planned at Rimac Campus
The modular data centre is scheduled to be installed at the Rimac Campus near Zagreb in November 2026.
The facility will serve as a live demonstration of the jointly developed technology, providing a platform for engagement with prospective customers and industry partners.
ECOBLOX specialises in modular AI infrastructure, including prefabricated data centres, GPU system integration, cluster design, installation and managed services.
The company combines air- and liquid-cooled modular enclosures with software for infrastructure management and high-performance computing.
It says its integrated solutions can enable cloud providers, businesses and other organisations to deploy large-scale computing infrastructure closer to available power sources, with deployment timelines of six to eight months.
ECOBLOX chief executive Doug Makishima said the partnership would combine automotive-grade energy storage and power electronics with modular data centre systems to improve power delivery and support the deployment of AI computing clusters.
Rimac Technology chief executive Nurdin Pitarević said the company’s experience in battery technology, power density, thermal management and safety could be applied to the demanding requirements of AI infrastructure.
