MWANZA: THE Minister for Information, Arts, Culture, and Sports, Mr Paul Makonda, has urged public servants to adhere to the laws, procedures, and regulations governing the public service, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to citizens with integrity and without discrimination.
Mr Makonda made these remarks today in Mwanza, where he represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the inauguration of the administrative building for the Ukerewe District Council.
He emphasized that taxpayers deserve to be served with respect, kindness, and humility. He further encouraged public servants not to become discouraged when assigned duties in different locations, noting that such experiences provide valuable insight and prepare them for greater responsibilities.
He said that the quality of public service is not measured solely by the aesthetic appeal of buildings, but rather by the conduct, professionalism, and accountability of the staff.
“Service is not a building. Service is about the individual—it is about character, the professionalism to uphold one’s oath, and viewing public service as a calling,” Mr Makonda said.
He cautioned against the practice of sending citizens from one department to another, or asking them to return on a different day without a valid reason, explaining that poor service delivery undermines public trust in the Government.
In a separate development, Makonda announced the gift of an IST vehicle to Ms Jenitha Byagalama, the TASAF Coordinator for Ukerewe District, in recognition of her long service, integrity, and dedication. He stated that the Ukerewe District Commissioner, Christopher Ngubiagai, would hand over the vehicle next week.
