Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has urged youths still involved in cultism to surrender and renounce violence, assuring them of an opportunity for rehabilitation while warning that those who continue criminal activities will face the law.
The governor made the appeal in a statement via social media after witnessing an event where young people across the state publicly renounced cultism.
Okpebholo commended the youths for abandoning violence, describing their decision as a step towards peace and a safer future for their families and communities.
“I commend these young men for their courage in turning away from violence. Your decision is a victory for your families, our communities and the future of Edo State,” he said.
The governor stressed the need for young people to reject violence against one another, regardless of their affiliations.

“We are all brothers, and no cult group is worth killing your brother over. We must choose life, peace and progress over violence and bloodshed,” he stated.

He also appealed to those still involved in cult activities to come forward and embrace rehabilitation, warning that the government would not tolerate continued criminality.
“My message to those still in hiding is clear: come out, renounce cultism and embrace a new beginning while you still have the opportunity. Our doors remain open to genuine rehabilitation, but anyone who chooses to continue on the path of criminality will face the full wrath of the law,” Okpebholo said.
The governor said his administration was committed to building a state where young people contribute to development rather than engage in activities that threaten lives and public safety.
“We are determined to build an Edo State where our young people become agents of development, not instruments of destruction,” he added.
He called on residents, particularly youths, to support efforts to promote peace and end cult-related violence across the state.
“Let us renounce violence, embrace peace and build a New Edo together!” the governor said.
