The project involves an investment of around 980 million meticais to rehabilitate and expand the facilities, with the aim of making the movement of people and goods between Mozambique and South Africa more efficient.
The aim is to reduce transit times for trucks carrying minerals from the current 45 minutes to one hour to around five minutes. For general goods, the target is to achieve waiting times of up to 30 minutes, depending on the nature of the cargo and the applicable control procedures.
Achieving these targets could help reduce logistics costs, improve the predictability of transport operations and increase the efficiency of goods movement at one of the main land links between Mozambique and South Africa.

The project also includes the digitisation and automation of procedures, as well as the integration of the information systems of the various institutions operating at the border. These measures are expected to reduce the duplication of procedures, facilitate information sharing, strengthen cargo traceability and speed up customs clearance.
In addition to facilitating cross-border trade, the new infrastructure could strengthen the competitiveness of national logistics corridors, benefiting transport operators, economic operators and companies that depend on the regular movement of goods between the two countries.
The Ressano Garcia border post is under concession to Gestão de Terminais e Serviços Aduaneiros (GTSA), which is responsible for the investment, while all matters relating to sovereignty remain safeguarded.
