Martin Naibei Musau clocked 2:08:07 to win the Lisbon Marathon, finishing ahead of Kenya’s Gilbert Kipkurui Korir and Stephen Chebon Kipkech.
Uganda’s Martin Naibei Musau beat two Kenyan rivals to win the 2026 EDP Lisbon Marathon in Portugal, setting a personal best of 2:08:07.
The 28-year-old crossed the finish line ahead of Kenya’s Gilbert Kipkurui Korir, who finished second in 2:08:33, and Stephen Chebon Kipkech, who placed third in 2:08:35.
Musau finished 26 seconds ahead of Korir, while Kipkech came just two seconds behind his compatriot in a closely contested battle for the remaining podium places.
The victory saw Musau improve his previous personal best of 2:08:42, set at the Hamburg Marathon in Germany in 2024, by 35 seconds.
The men’s race took place on Saturday, October 10, with the marathon course starting in Carcavelos, passing through Oeiras and finishing in central Lisbon.
In the women’s elite race, Ethiopia’s Meskerem Mamo won in 2:28:04, finishing seven seconds ahead of compatriot Tejitu Siyum, while Bashanke Bilo took third place in 2:28:15.
Musau’s triumph adds to Uganda’s presence in international distance running, with the athlete emerging as the leading man in Lisbon ahead of the Kenyan pair.
