October 19, Colombo (LNW): SriLankan Airlines has cautioned passengers to remain vigilant against fraudulent mobile applications that falsely claim to represent the national carrier, warning that unsuspecting users could risk exposing their personal and financial information.
The airline has urged customers to exercise caution when encountering app download links circulated through social media, messaging services, emails or unofficial websites. Applications offered through unverified third-party platforms should also be treated with suspicion, as they may be designed to deceive users into sharing sensitive data.
In its public notice, the carrier stressed that it does not direct customers to install its mobile application through links sent via WhatsApp, text messages, email or social media. It also reiterated that legitimate airline services do not require customers to disclose one-time passwords (OTPs), banking PINs, credit card information or other confidential financial details in response to unsolicited requests.
Passengers wishing to install or update the airline’s application have been advised to use only the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Before downloading, users should check the publisher information to ensure the application is listed under SriLankan Airlines Limited.
The airline further reminded travellers that genuine ticketing information, promotional campaigns, special offers and digital services are available through its official website, www.srilankan.com, its authorised mobile application and verified social media accounts.
Anyone who comes across an application claiming to represent SriLankan Airlines but appears suspicious has been advised not to install it or enter any personal, banking or payment details. Such incidents should instead be reported through the airline’s recognised communication channels.
The warning comes amid continuing concerns over online impersonation and digital scams targeting consumers. Travellers are encouraged to verify the authenticity of applications and communications before taking action, particularly when a message requests urgent responses or sensitive information. A few moments spent checking the source could help prevent financial loss and protect personal data.
