DODOMA: THE Ministry of Health has pledged to continue working with the Tanzania Prisons Service to accelerate the completion of a strategic hospital under construction in Msalato, Dodoma, and address challenges related to the availability of medical equipment to enable the facility to begin providing services to the public.
The commitment was made by Chief Government Medical Officer Professor Bruno Sunguya during a visit to the hospital construction site to assess progress and discuss with Prisons Service officials the measures needed to complete the project.
Professor Sunguya said a preliminary assessment had shown that the hospital buildings met the required standards for healthcare facilities, with some buildings already completed and others nearing completion.

He said the Msalato site was of significant strategic importance because of its size, proximity to a major road and the ongoing construction of Msalato International Airport. These factors, he noted, presented opportunities for further development of the area to support various activities in the health sector.
Professor Sunguya explained that, in addition to serving the Prisons Service and surrounding communities, the hospital could play a wider role in strengthening the country’s capacity to respond to emergencies, including accidents, disease outbreaks and other public health challenges, depending on national needs.
He added that the Ministry of Health would continue working with the Prisons Service and other government stakeholders, including regional leaders and the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), to ensure that challenges delaying the hospital’s completion are addressed promptly.
