Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has alleged that the video released by Delhi Police showing the moment he was informed about his grandmother's death was "edited."
He dared the police to "release the entire video." This comes after Delhi Police released a video showing an officer offering to arrange travel for Dipke after learning of his grandmother's death.
The move was an attempt to counter allegations that the CJP leader was not conveyed the news while in custody on Saturday, October 10.
'ASKED THEM TO LET ME SPEAK TO COUSIN'
In response to the police's clarification, Dipke asked why they didn't let him use his phone to contact his cousin who lived with his grandmother.
"Delhi Police, if you have the courage, release the entire video in which I repeatedly asked them to let me speak to my cousin, give me my phone for two minutes and allow me to speak to my lawyer," he said while talking to reporters in Maharashtra's Hingoli.
"Why are you not releasing that video? You are showing an edited version. If you have the courage, show the entire video so that people can understand how you denied me my basic rights. Allowing a person to call their lawyer after arrest or detention is a legal right," the CJP founder was quoted as saying further by news agency PTI.
In the video played at a press conference held by the Delhi Police on Sunday, a woman in police uniform and a man in plain clothes can be seen talking to Dipke, who's sitting in a room.
As the CJP leader covers his face with his hands, the man can be seen offering water to him. Meanwhile, the policewoman can be heard expressing condolences over the death of Dipke's grandmother.
The male officer present there is then heard asking the CJP founder if he wished to return home, saying the police could arrange a bus or flight for him. Dipke, however, declines the offer, saying, "I will stay."
WAS ASKED TO CALL HOME AT 3 AM: DIPKE
Dipke's grandmother, who had been ill for a long time, died in Hingoli at 11.30 am on Saturday, shortly after he, along with fellow CJP functionaries Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, were detained from a flight in Delhi.
The CJP leader further claimed that he was asked to call his parents later at 3.30 am on Sunday to tell them he would be going to jail the next day for a long time.
Dipke, Ranka and Das were placed under preventive arrest following their detention ahead of their proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
The trio were released on Sunday morning after being produced before an executive magistrate. They were released on the condition that they would not "breach peace" for a year, per CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh.
The outfit has called for an agitation to demand Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.
