Kenya has confirmed a second case of Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo strain, involving a 39-year-old man who is a close family member of the country’s first confirmed patient.
The Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that the man was already in quarantine and under daily monitoring when he developed symptoms on October 13.
He reportedly developed fever, fatigue and joint pains before health officials isolated him and collected samples for testing.
Tests conducted at two laboratories returned positive results for the virus.
The patient has been transferred to a designated treatment centre, where he is receiving supportive care.
Kenya has now recorded two confirmed cases of Bundibugyo Ebola and one death.
The first patient, a Kenyan national who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, died on October 5 after testing positive for the virus.
