TRUNK SHOW: Moynat has tapped not one but two creatives for a limited-edition collection inspired by travel and the French house’s history of making trunks, following a high-profile partnership with Labubu’s creator Kasing Lung.
Checking into “Hotel Moynat” are Los Angeles-based stylist Storm Pablo and jewelry designer Marvin Douglas, both regular collaborators of popular singer and street-style icon Bad Bunny.
“We want to give props to Moynat for paying attention to the people behind the scenes,” they said in a statement.
“Moynat has a long tradition working with cultural voices, we are constantly looking to collaborate with creatives and artists that define pop culture,” said Bertrand Le Gall, Moynat’s image and communications director. “Storm and Marvin are pushing the boundaries of the fashion language; the collection reflects that through both their taste and personalities.”
At a preview during Paris Fashion Week, the two shared how they were invited to dive into the French brand’s cache of vintage travel items. Pablo said what caught their eye was the vibrancy of the visuals they saw but how fresh they felt — and how Moynat’s current items feel like an invitation to give its story one’s own spin.
Hotel Moynat will come in two chapters, starting with a Thursday drop that will play extensively with vintage travel stickers, highlighting fictional places such as “Hotel Pauline” in reference to the founder Pauline Moynat.
Printed on leather, they are sewn by hand onto Moynat’s Monogram “M” canvas for hobo shapes, totes, the 48-hour duffel and Pochette Nomade as well as small leather goods, charms and silk scarves, a new category introduced for the occasion. There is also the new travel-sized Mignon and exclusive Limousine trunks.
A second chapter will arrive in November at select boutiques, featuring crystal studs on the Monogram “M” canvas, inspired by the protective hardware on vintage trunks. A new shape here is a foldable soft clutch that can be zippered into a compact pouch. Le Gall added that it “also always amazed [him] how our monogram created in the early 1900 and the house legacy has this versatility to be reinvented in so many ways.”
For the occasion, the brand called on Petra Collins to shoot the Hotel Moynat campaign featuring model Abby Champion in Malibu.
This latest collaboration builds on Moynat’s push to work with artists and pop-culture creators. The French brand garnered attention in recent years through well-received collaborations with Japan’s Kazumasa Naga and Lung.
It also used limited runs and art-driven capsules to build buzz and reach new audiences, tapping Chinese stylist Lucia Liu and doing a local 520 campaign with Tan Xiaodai and Tan Liliu, two dogs with massive online followings, which are owned by actor Tan Jianci.
