Man tells court wife now charges K200 for s333x, says he is not her type
A 37-year-old Lusaka man has told the Matero Local Court that his 10-year marriage has taken an unexpected turn, with his wife allegedly demanding at least K200 before intimacy and telling him she prefers men with six-packs.
Lusaka, 12 October – John Daka, of Olympia Township, broke down while explaining to Magistrate Harriet Mulenga that the woman he married in 2011 now sees him less as a husband and more like an unfortunate relative who happens to live in the same house.
According to Daka, the couple’s problems began about a year ago after his wife, Irene, started working.
He said that before then, their marriage was relatively peaceful and they had three children together. But once Irene got a job, he claimed, things changed faster than a salary disappears after payday or like a Zambian politician after winning Elections.
Daka told the court that his wife began spending nights away from home and allegedly started asking for between K200 and K300 before sex, with K200 being the minimum admission fee.
“For the past two months, she denies me conjugal rights because I have been having financial challenges,” he told the court.
But the financial negotiations were apparently not limited to the bedroom.
Daka also complained that Irene no longer performed household chores as she used to, claiming that even washing his clothes had become a service for which he was expected to pay.
Then came what may have been the most painful part of his testimony.
Daka said his wife had told him he was simply not her type.
He claimed Irene told him she was attracted to men with six-packs, while he did not make the cut.
As if that was not enough, Daka said his wife told him that whenever he touched her, she felt as though her own brother was touching her.
At this point, the six-pack competition appeared to have moved well beyond the gym.
But Irene had her own version of events, and she was not about to let her husband walk away from the witness box looking like the only victim.
She told the court that Daka had failed to provide adequately for the family, including buying her sanitary pads, yet still expected him to have regular sex.
“Your honour, how can a man who does not provide for his family, not to talk of buying me sanitary pads, fail to provide and have sex?” she asked.
Irene further accused her husband of being overly interested in sex, saying he allegedly demanded intimacy even when she was on her period.
The dispute has now landed before the Matero Local Court, with Daka suing his wife for divorce after more than a decade of marriage.
The couple married in 2011 and have three children.
For Daka, however, the biggest issue appears to be that the marriage he once knew has changed dramatically
For Irene, the problem appears to be less about romance and more about responsibility.
And somewhere in the middle sits the K200 question, which the court may have to consider alongside the much bigger issues of money, intimacy, attraction and the increasingly expensive cost of keeping a marriage alive.
One thing is certain: in this marriage, even the six-pack has become a matter for the courts.
