A jury has found Kareem Samuel guilty of murdering 66-year-old Dennis Edwards, who was fatally stabbed on Lower All Saints Road in August 2023.
The verdict was
delivered on Wednesday 21 October, following a trial before Justice John Spencer at the High Court of Justice.
Samuel, 45, of Greenbay, is on remand at His Majesty’s Prison and is due to be sentenced on November 19.
Edwards, a resident of Bolans, was found with stab wounds to his upper body following an incident on Lower All Saints Road on August 21, 2023.
During the trial, the court heard that Samuel told police he had acted in self-defence, claiming Edwards attacked him first.
A police officer attached to the Serious Crimes Unit testified that Samuel said Edwards put a hand in his face and slapped him before the two wrestled.
The jury also viewed video footage showing the two men on steps near the Courts store on Lower All Saints Road shortly after 7 p.m. The recording captured an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.
The footage showed Edwards holding a food container and a phone before dropping both during the confrontation. Samuel was seen swinging at Edwards, while Edwards was also seen putting his hand in Samuel’s face.
