United States Olympic star skier Lindsey Vonn celebrated her 42nd birthday over the weekend.
The three-time Olympic medalist and gold medal winner continues to recover from a complex tibia fracture she suffered just 13 seconds into her run in the women’s downhill final during the 2026 Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
Vonn reflected on the crash and what she’s learned as she enters the latter stages of her career and her early 40s.
“Well… I’m another year older. Age is a funny thing… my perspective of life at 30 was that (especially as an athlete) I was over the hill, but now that I’m in my 40’s I feel the knowledge of life that I have amassed makes me feel somehow much younger and more confident in who I am,” she said the caption of a post on Instagram.

In the post she also showed off the work she continues to put in while recovering from the devastating knee injury. The video showed her hitting a series of front squats while appearing to show full mobility in her surgically-repaired knee.

“Despite my crash and all of the things that have happened to me, the good, the bad the ugly… I’m always thankful to be in this life. Thankful for all the love and support I’ve received,” she added in the caption of the post.
Vonn has not announced a decision on her skiing future.
