Portimão will host a charity walk on Sunday, October 25, as part of Pink October, the international breast cancer awareness campaign, encouraging residents and visitors to get active while supporting an important cause.
The Pink October Walk (Caminhada Outubro Rosa) will take place along Portimão’s riverside, with participants able to choose between two routes of 5km and 8km.
Organised by the Faro Support Group of the Portuguese Cancer League’s Southern Regional Branch, with support from Portimão Council, the event aims to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention and the importance of early detection.
The walk is open to people of all ages and abilities and is non-competitive, with an emphasis on physical activity, healthy lifestyles and community solidarity.
Funds raised will support the Portuguese Cancer League’s work with cancer patients and their families.
Free participation with optional charity kit
Participation is free, although advance registration is required through the BOL ticketing platform.
Participants can choose between free registration without a kit or a €5 charity kit, which includes a T-shirt, a piece of fruit and a bottle of water.
Personal details must be provided during registration for accident insurance purposes.
Those wishing to support the initiative financially without taking part in the walk can purchase a charity kit directly from the Portuguese Cancer League’s Faro Support Group.

Walk starts at 10am
Participants will gather near the former fish market (Antiga Lota), on Portimão’s riverside.
Registration and kit collection will take place between 8.30am and 9.15am, followed by a group warm-up at 9.30am. The walk begins at 10am.
Participants who purchase a kit can also collect it in advance from several locations, including Portimão’s municipal sports pavilion, the sports complexes in Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, the Boavista sports pavilion and the Portuguese Cancer League’s Faro Support Group.
The event forms part of the Algarve’s 2026/2027 Regional Walking and Running Calendar, promoted by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).
Organisers hope the initiative will bring the community together while reinforcing the message that early detection of breast cancer can save lives.
