Accenture $ACN is exploring a sale of its Greater China business at a valuation that could reach $1.5 billion, according to the Financial Times, which published the report on Sunday and cited unnamed sources.
The IT consulting firm has retained JPMorgan $JPM to lead a strategic review of the unit, prompted by unsolicited approaches that have arrived during the last 12 months, according to the Financial Times.
Accenture may stay on as a part-owner by holding onto a sizable minority share of the unit, according to the Financial Times. The company could do so to avoid disrupting service for its clients, according to Benzinga, which added that the review may not result in a deal.
Accenture and JPMorgan did not immediately respond to requests for comment, according to Reuters and Benzinga.
Accenture's website lists Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China as part of its Greater China operations. The company's Asia Pacific region, which includes those markets, accounted for $2.67 billion of the $18.7 billion in revenue it recorded in the fourth quarter. That figure rose 3% when measured in U.S. dollars and 7% on a local-currency basis.
At an investor day last week, Chief Financial Officer Angie Park said Accenture applies return thresholds to every part of its operations, and that this includes "exiting businesses, offerings, countries, contracts, that no longer meet our strategic or return thresholds," according to Benzinga. Park did not mention China, according to Benzinga.
Accenture reported fourth-quarter revenue of $18.68 billion earlier this month, a 6% increase from a year earlier. Accenture stock rose more than 22% that day, its largest single-day gain on record. For fiscal 2027, the company expects full-year revenue growth of 3% to 6% in local currency.
Accenture stock ended Friday's session up 2.12%, at $229.68. It gained 0.16% to reach $230 in premarket action early Monday.
