Cannondale is closing up operations in its home state of Connecticut after over 50 years there and moving to California, the brand announced to employees and dealers today.
The move to Santa Cruz, California will bring Cannondale sales and operations closer to other brands owned by its Dutch parent company, PON.Bike. Both Santa Cruz and Cervélo operate in California.
Going forward, outside sales reps will act as a single point of contact for all three brands.
“The aim is to make it easier for retailers to work with Cannondale and access more of the Pon.Bike portfolio,” the company said in a media statement. “Each brand will retain its own identity, models and relationship with riders.”
Cannondale’s global headquarters will move to Woudenberg, Netherlands, which is Cannondale’s existing European headquarters. Global R&D and engineering will continue to be based in Freiburg, Germany.
The relocation will impact a significant number of jobs at Cannondale. Velo’s sister publication Bicycle Retailer and Industry News reports that a letter the brand filed with the Connecticut Department of Labor on Wednesday lists 143 workers who may be impacted by the closure.
“The entire office will be closed and almost all employees there will be impacted,” reads a letter to the department signed by Maggie Lansdale, global vice president of People for Cycling Sports Group, Cannondale’s business unit within Pon.
The closure will occur over the next six months and will be final in mid-2027, with some employees staying on through 2027.
Cannondale has operated in Connecticut for its entire history since its founding in 1971. The brand was acquired by Pon.Bike in 2022 after the brand bought Dorel Sports and all its brands, including Schwinn.
