Senators forward Nick Cousins and Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers weren’t suspended for their actions during a scrum that took place near Ottawa’s bench in the third period in Ottawa’s huge 5-1 victory, but they will have to dig into their pocketbooks.
Cousins was fined $4,091.49 US for unsportsmanlike conduct by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Thursday morning. Tkachuk was fined $5,000 for his part in the same skirmish.
Tkachuk threw some punches at Ottawa forward Dylan Cozens, who was was pushing and shoving near the bench with Brady Tkachuk.
An upset Cousins reached in to pull Matthew away from Cozens with Brady also trying to get involved physically.
This was all part of a supercharged night at the rink that produced one of the club’s best efforts of the season. The skirmish came 3:35 into the third, while Linus Ullmark was receiving medical attention in the crease after stopping a shot from Brady.
“It was probably our most complete game of the year. And you know, certain moments, certain games of the year bring out what you hope is your best,” said Ottawa coach Travis Green.
