Meghan Markle is speaking out about the child pornography allegations against her father, Thomas Markle Sr.
The 82-year-old is being investigated after his son, and Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., found a cache of child sex abuse material in boxes at his father’s home in Cebu, Philippines, which he reported to local authorities and the FBI, the U.K. Sun reported.
How long has Meghan known?
The Duchess of Sussex, 45, issued a lengthy statement that revealed she had been aware of the allegations for years.
“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” she said, per the Sun.
“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated,” she continued.

“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them,” Meghan revealed.
“I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families,” she noted.
“Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”

When in 2018?
Meghan is the only child of Markle and Doria Ragland.
Thomas Sr. has two other children with his first wife, Roslyn Loveless: daughter Samantha, 61, and Thomas Jr., 60.
Meghan did not detail what was in the 2018 letter or who sent it to U.K. authorities.
It is also unclear if she received it before or after her and Prince Harry’s May 19th wedding that year, where her father was to walk her down the aisle but was instead accompanied by then-Prince Charles following Markle’s paparazzi photo debacle days before the royal nuptials.

What did Thomas Jr. discover?
The alleged child pornography material was found by Thomas Jr., in four large boxes, which contained “hundreds, if not thousands” of images, he told the Sun.
He also claimed to have found videos of girls no older than 10 or 11 years old engaged in sexual acts, as well as a 15-minute video of child porn on his father’s old cellphone.
Thomas Jr. also said he found three photos of naked girls, one of which he recognized as being taken at his father’s former home in Rosarito, Mexico.
“His desktop was full of row-upon-row of thumbnail pictures linking to the most sickening child abuse imaginable,” Thomas Jr. said, according to the Sun. “The worst of the worst.”
He also claimed to have found “old books that turned out to be full of naked little girls,” one of which had images stored inside of a man engaged in a sex act with a very young girl.
“When I found this material I was horrified and I had no option but to report my dad,” Thomas Jr. told the Sun, noting he contacted police in the Philippines and the FBI, as well as the National Centre for Exploited and Missing Children and police in Pennsylvania, where Thomas Sr. was living.
The FBI “confirmed receipt” of Thomas Jr.’s affidavit and is “set to launch their own probe,” according to the Sun.

Samantha defends her father
Samantha Markle slammed her brother, accused him of making the claims about their father for financial gain.
“There is no merit in these disgusting allegations whatsoever and my brother is disgusting for making them up. He wants to destroy our dad. Shame on him,” she told the Daily Mail.
“My brother first came out with these lies a few weeks ago when the cash from my dad was cut off,” she told the outlet. “He has used dad as a cash cow for years and once the money stopped he made up the most outrageous lies he could to try and make money from the media.”
Samantha continued: “There is no proof my dad downloaded any images. Those computers were out of his possession for two years. That leaves a lot of room for tampering.”
She went on to call the allegations “unsubstantiated.”
“Anyone could have been in contact with those computers over a couple of years,” she insisted. “Dad was in a rehabilitation facility and did not have access to those computers.”
In 2022, Thomas Sr. suffered a stroke and his son said he has been caring for him since — but no more, Thomas Jr. said.
“I have supported, cared for him and helped him for years — but that stops now,” he told the Sun. “I won’t speak to my father ever again unless I’m called to give evidence against him.”
