Claims of a police shooting in Minamba Valley in Wapenamanda in Enga have been dismissed as “drunkard claims by students who were trying to cover up their misconduct”.
A group of Grade 12 students from St Paul’s Lutheran Secondary School (Pausa) were drinking when a group of boys fought over a female student.
Acting Provincial Police Commander Daniel Yangen, while dismissing the claims circulating on social media that police shot and injured two students during the incident, described the allegations as fabricated.
“The story was fabricated by undisciplined students to cover up their misconduct and mislead the public. Police did not shoot or injure any students,” Mr Yangen said.
He said the incident began when two Grade 12 male students allegedly clashed over a female student while drinking alcohol with local youths outside the school premises.
During the drinking session, one student allegedly slashed the fingers of another, triggering physical confrontations involving students and members of the surrounding community.
