Super Falcons forward Folashade Ijamilusi has expressed her delight at making an impact off the bench in Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros, saying she was determined to seize the opportunity to prove her quality, The PUNCH reports.
Ijamilusi received a late call-up to replace the injured Asisat Oshoala and was introduced after captain Rasheedat Ajibade was forced off with an injury during Tuesday’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifier at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The China-based forward thanked the coaching staff and team officials for the opportunity, saying she was eager to contribute to the team’s performance.
“I thank God for the opportunity. Also, to the coaches and officials for the opportunity. I was so happy when I came in,” she said.
Acknowledging Ajibade’s contribution before her withdrawal, Ijamilusi said she was determined to make her own impact when introduced.
“Ajibade was doing well when she was on the pitch. When I was introduced, I took the chance to show that I can also deliver,” she added.
The forward provided two assists for Uchenna Kanu, who scored twice in the second half to help Nigeria secure a 5-0 victory and a 7-0 aggregate win over Comoros.
Ijamilusi described her contribution as particularly satisfying, noting that providing an assist was exactly what she had hoped to achieve.
“The assist was a good thing for me because this is what I wanted,” she said.
The victory sent the Super Falcons into the third round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games, where they will face Morocco as they continue their bid to return to the women’s football tournament after missing the last three editions.
