The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate operations conducted between October 8 and 9, 2026.
The command said the operations formed part of its ongoing efforts to tackle vehicle theft through intelligence gathering, technical support and cooperation with the public.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operations were conducted under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The first case involved a 2010 Toyota Corolla belonging to Aminu Yahaya of Darmanawa Quarters, Kano. Yahaya reported that he had handed the ash-coloured car to Sale Usman, also known as Dambu, of Fagge Quarters on September 22 to sell it and remit the proceeds.
However, Sale allegedly diverted the vehicle to an unknown location without the owner’s consent.
Police operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad later recovered the car from a man identified as Sulaiman in Katsina State. The man claimed to have bought the vehicle for N7.5 million. Police said investigations were ongoing.
In another operation, two suspects were arrested following the theft of a Toyota Hiace minibus from Singer Market on October 5.
The vehicle, which belonged to Isah Abdullahi of Bachirawa Quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, was white and had the registration number NSR 261 XB.
With technical support, police tracked the minibus to a remote area in Mariri Magadawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, where they arrested Abubakar Umar, 23, of Nasarawa GRA, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, of Layin Makabarta in Tarauni Local Government Area.
The stolen minibus was recovered from the suspects.
The third operation led to the arrest of Abdullahi Adamu, 40, from Potiskum, Yobe State, over the theft of a Mitsubishi Canter truck.
According to the police, a surveillance team from Ungogo Police Division arrested him on October 8 after receiving credible intelligence. He was allegedly found with the truck, which had a blue cabin and a white body, at a garage in Kadawa Quarters, where it had been taken for repainting.
“During the course of investigation, the suspect confessed that he stole the said Canter truck from one Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum, Yobe State,” the statement said.
The police added that the truck had been recovered and that the Kano State Police Command had contacted its counterpart in Yobe State to facilitate further action and identify the rightful owner.
The command said all the suspects would be charged to court after investigations were completed. It added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects who were still at large.
The Commissioner of Police praised officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division for their professionalism, prompt response and use of technical intelligence.
He also urged vehicle owners to remain security-conscious, park their vehicles in safe places, entrust their property only to trusted people and install additional security devices.
The police further called on residents to provide credible information and report suspicious activities, particularly attempts to sell vehicles at unusually low prices.
Members of the public can report emergencies or suspicious activities through the command’s telephone lines 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
