JASIN: Police have busted a drug trafficking ring following seizures of drugs worth RM6.8 million in separate raids in Melaka and Johor from yesterday and today.
Jasin district police chief Supt Lee Robert said a man, 27, was arrested in the first raid at the Lipat Kajang Toll Plaza here at about 11.30 am after he was spotted driving in a suspicious manner.
“The inspection on the Toyota Vios driven by the suspect revealed 27.5 kilogrammes (kg) of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and 3.70 grams (g) of ketamine.
“Interrogating the suspect led to the raid in Johor with the cooperation of the state narcotics investigation team,” he said at a media conference at the Jasin district police headquarters here today.
Lee said the second raid, at about 4.50 am today, was at a residential unit in Johor Bahru, and seized 17.8 kg of MDMA, ketamine (29 g), Erimin 5 pills (21.60 g) and estacy pills (32.2 g).
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect worked as a swimming coach and is suspected of being involved in processing, packaging and trafficking the drugs since this year,” he said, adding that the suspect tested positive for ketamine.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days from today to facilitate investigations under Section 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
