Kohima, Oct 12: A Nagaland government Cabinet sub-committee has recommended the termination of 15 appointments and is scrutinising 107 cases flagged by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) over alleged violations of recruitment rules.
Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said the recommendations would be placed before the state Cabinet for a final decision. He was speaking after a meeting with the NSF in Kohima on Monday.
Of the 15 cases recommended for termination, 12 involve appointments to posts under the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) made without open advertisement, while three concern appointments against unsanctioned posts. Four other cases involving improper procedures have already resulted in termination.
The NSF had submitted 109 entries for scrutiny, of which two were duplicates. Yhome said 19 cases involved employees appointed 30 to 33 years ago whose services were being regularised under government policy.
Another 69 cases require further consideration. These include 22 appointments allegedly made in violation of the state government’s April 21, 2020, ban on fresh recruitment during the COVID-19 pandemic. These cases form part of 786 appointments identified by the government as having violated the ban.
Yhome cautioned that terminating existing appointments could lead to prolonged litigation, stressing that each case must be assessed individually. He also called for accountability among officials who authorised appointments in violation of government orders. He suggested that pension reviews could be considered where responsibility was established, clarifying that this was his personal opinion.
Highlighting recruitment reforms, Yhome credited the NSF’s sustained efforts with contributing to the establishment of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB).
Since February 2022, the NSSB has conducted eight examination cycles, resulting in 1,511 appointments.
The remaining cases will be processed under the applicable procedures, with the final decision resting with the state Cabinet.
