Bank of Korea Governor Shin Hyun-song is heading to Bangkok, Thailand, to discuss global economic issues. The Bank of Korea announced on Oct. 12 that Governor Shin will attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG) Annual Meetings held in the city.
Through the G20 meeting, Governor Shin plans to exchange opinions with officials from major countries regarding the global economic situation, growth paths, and global imbalances. In the subsequent IMF Annual Meetings, he will participate in discussions to review global economic prospects and the financial stability situation.
During this visit, Governor Shin will meet with high-level officials from major central banks, including the United States Federal Reserve (Fed) and the European Central Bank (ECB). He is also expected to hold separate meetings with IMF officials to discuss countermeasures against the rapidly changing international situation.
His specific external activity schedule has also been confirmed. Governor Shin will appear as a panelist at a governor dialogue session hosted by the IMF on Oct. 13 (local time). At this event, he plans to engage in an in-depth conversation about how to manage monetary policy in Asia and South Korea amid the boom in the global artificial intelligence (AI) industry and the uncertainties caused by the war in the Middle East.
On Oct. 14, he will also deliver external messages through the media. Governor Shin plans to appear as a panelist on a CNN program to examine global economic issues alongside Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Bernard Mensah, President of International for Bank of America (BOA).
