A high ankle sprain is no easy feat to come back from. Just ask A.J. Brown.
But it seems New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson has defied the odds. After Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders, in which he left the game early with an ankle injury, it was reported that he sustained a high ankle sprain, which likely comes with a timeline of four weeks. So, imagine the surprise when Henderson took the field on Wednesday to participate in practice with the rest of the team.
"Honestly, I was surprised. I felt a little bit different than what they diagnosed it as and what the MRI showed," Henderson told reporters on Friday. "I'm hoping that I'm able to be out there with the guys and try to help this team continue."
The running back was a limited participant all three days, being listed as questionable for today's game. So, the question that remains is: will he play?
"I feel pretty good. I think I'm getting better," he said. "We'll see how things continue to go and the decision that we all end up making."
Nothing is certain until the list of inactives comes out 90 minutes before kickoff, but signs are pointing in a positive direction because of the Patriots' Saturday moves. Along with activating wide receiver A.J. Brown, the Patriots only elevated one player from the practice squad: safety Elliott Davison. They also released running back Hassan Haskins from the practice squad.
They had Lan Larison available for elevation, but opted not to use it, instead leaving Rhamondre Stevenson, Henderson, and Corey Kiner as the only three backs on the roster for the matchup against the Jets. So with that, it seems the team feels confident that Henderson will be able to take part in the game in some capacity.
If that's the case, they truly dodged a bullet.
