The Dallas Cowboys are coming off of a brutal loss last week on Thursday Night Football against the then-winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For Dak Prescott and company, the loss was a wakeup call that ended up resulting a 2-3 record heading into Week 6.
Prescott and the Cowboys are set to take on the Green Bay Packers in a tough road matchup on Sunday Night Football this week. The Packers are coming off of a blowout win over the Chicago Bears last week by a final score of 31-7.
Offense has not been the big issue for Dallas. Once again, the defensive side of the football has been a disappointment.
Christian Parker has been unable to fix the issues from last year in his first season as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. The struggles cannot be blamed on him, but he has not been the quick fix fans were hoping to see.
With that being said, Prescott spoke out before this week’s game with a reason for fans to have hope about the defense.
Dak Prescott Offers Hope for the Dallas Cowboys’ Defense
As shared by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Prescott thinks the defense has looked different this week following last week’s loss to the Buccaneers. He noted that bringing in longtime defensive mind Mike Pettine has been a help.
“Absolutely, just in the way they’ve approached it,” Prescott said. “Bringing in a new coach [Mike Pettine], adding his scheme to what they’re already doing.”
Harris noted that Prescott said he has “seen a different version of the defense this week.”
Fans can only hope that the star quarterback is right in his assessment. Going up against Jordan Love and the Packers’ offense will be a much more difficult test than undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels was last week. Dallas can’t afford to have the same defensive lapses.
Only time will tell whether or not Parker and the defense can get back on track. If they are unable to do so, the Cowboys are going to be in for a very difficult season.
