A woman, Walimot, has filed for divorce against her husband, Hameed, at the Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, accusing him of irresponsibility, incessant quarrels, theft and threats to her life.
Walimot told the court that she was Hameed’s third wife and had known no peace since she married him.
The plaintiff stated that she met and fell head over heels in love with Hameed, who reciprocated her feelings by showering her with affection.
She explained that she accepted his marriage proposal because she believed he genuinely loved her.
However, she later realised that she had been deceived.
Walimot said she discovered too late that her husband was more interested in her money and property than in her.
She alleged that, from the beginning of their marriage, Hameed had demanded that she transfer ownership of her property to him, a request she refused.
The plaintiff further accused her husband of secretly transferring money from her bank account into his own while she was asleep at night.
According to her, Hameed would delete the transaction notifications from her phone to conceal his alleged acts.
Walimot further alleged that her husband frequently complained about her close relationship with her father and would berate her.
The plaintiff stated that she reported the defendant at the police station and then they came to court after the defendant, apart from beating her, took to threatening her and insisting that she had access to her account.
The plaintiff stated that she moved out of her matrimonial home because it was obvious that her life was no longer safe with her husband.

Walimot, therefore, prayed that their marriage be dissolved.
She also entreated the court for custody of the only child produced by their wedlock.
She further pleaded that the court mandate her husband to be responsible for their child’s upkeep.
Hameed, however, refused to make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.
Walimot, in her testimony, said, “My lord, I pray that this honourable court dissolve my marriage to my husband, who has become a threat to my life.
“I believed that getting married to my husband was the best thing that could ever happen to me, but our relationship has proved otherwise.
“I fell head over heels in love with my husband from the outset of our relationship.
“He responded by showering me with love and attention.
“I felt on top of the world even though I was his third wife.
“We got married in June 2024 and he paid my bride price, but this was returned to him.
“I started noticing some negative traits in my husband a few months after I moved in with him.
“I gradually came to the realisation that my husband did not love me as he claimed, but was rather interested in my money and property.
“My husband started by complaining that I was too close and open to my father.
“He refused to see reason despite all my explanations on the bonding we have in my family. Uu
“I ignored his complaint after he refused.
“I acquired some property before I got married to my husband which bore my name.
“I purchased some more after we got married, which are also … in my name.
“My husband had his eyes on these properties and demanded that I transfer ownership of these to him, but I declined.
“Hell was let loose in our home because I turned down my husband’s request.
“He started misbehaving and maltreating me.
“My husband took to beating me at the slightest provocation.
“My lord, my husband is a thief.
“He was secretly transferring money from my bank account into his while I was asleep at night.
“He would delete the transaction notifications from my phone to conceal them.
“He started threatening me after I confronted him on the issue and refused that I had rest of mind.
“I reported him at the police station.
“I later moved out of our home since my life was obviously not safe.
“I no longer love my husband.
“I, therefore, pray this court to end my relationship with him.
“I further plead for custody of the only child produced by our marriage.
“My lord, I also request an order restraining my husband from threatening and infringing on my privacy.
The president of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case.
