The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Teachers Welfare Federation has urged the School Education Department to withdraw its announcement of appointing the same monitoring teacher for both the breakfast program and the mid-day meal program.
In a release, the federation noted that the teacher would have to come in earlier to monitor the breakfast scheme and then once again supervise the noon meal which would leave the teachers with little teaching time.
In a circular, the School Education department had directed all primary education officers to notify nodal teachers to monitor the hygiene and preparation of the meals.
“With the aim of not only teaching the subjects but also improving student’s individual skills, the government is implementing many schemes so that students can become excellent in general knowledge through various forums and through NCC, scouts and the NSS. In this situation, the order to appoint a separate teacher to monitor the breakfast and lunch program has upset all the teachers,” said S. Arunan, president of the federation.
They added that implementation of this would be difficult in schools where only two teachers were present. They urged the School Education department to withdraw the order.
