A Canada-based medical doctor, Dr Charles Kene Ojukwu, has donated medical equipment to a primary health centre in Abatete, Anambra state, to improve maternal and newborn healthcare delivery.
The intervention, carried out through the Charles Kene Ojukwu Initiative Foundation, also included the renovation and repainting of the Primary Health Centre at Christ the King Parish, Abatete.

The equipment was blessed on October 11, 2026 by the Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke.
The donated items include a diagnostic ultrasound machine, phototherapy machine, delivery bed, digital fetal Doppler, autoclave machine, suction machine, cardiac monitor, oxygen cylinder with trolley and nebuliser machine.
Other items include labour and minor surgical equipment to support healthcare workers in attending to pregnant women, newborns and other patients.
Speaking on the intervention, Ojukwu said the equipment would enable pregnant women to access ultrasound scans at the facility and help healthcare workers provide phototherapy for newborns suffering from jaundice.
He added that the nebuliser and suction machines would support emergency care, while the autoclave would enable the proper sterilisation of medical instruments.
The delivery bed and minor surgical equipment are also expected to assist midwives in carrying out procedures, including suturing lacerations and episiotomies.
The intervention is aimed at improving access to essential maternal and newborn healthcare services in Abatete and neighbouring communities.
It is also expected to strengthen the capacity of the health centre to provide basic medical services and contribute to efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality in the area.
