But the plan would later culminate in the arrest of the the recruit alongside 17 others for presenting fake academic documents at the Kiganjo Police Training College.
Nyamu made the disclosure during a Radio Generation interview Friday, October 23, while making the case for improved access to basic education among Nairobi's youth.
Nyamu's Account of the Forgery
She described the incident as stemming from a desire to reward a loyal campaign supporter, a young man aged between 28 and 29, who lacked the minimum academic qualification required to join the police.

"I can even tell you a recent case where I tried to help someone get into the police force. A very staunch campaigner of mine. They're young, I think twenty-nine, twenty-eight. He didn't have a Form 4 certificate, so we forged one. Because I had this chance and I really have to give back," Nyamu said.
She said the recruit was admitted to Kiganjo Police Training College and that everyone in her circle was celebrating the placement.
The mood shifted when the recruit called her from a police station.
"They were arrested for forgery, alongside 17 others. They were disqualified for having fake papers. So you see, we have to make sure that even these young mothers, before you get to them to TVET, let everyone have a Form Four certificate, and that is the work of the woman representative," she said.
The senator is vying for the Nairobi County woman representative seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
She has made education a central plank of her campaign and is pushing for the Form 4 certificate to be the minimum academic qualification for Nairobians, including young mothers who join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Nyamu is competing for the seat against incumbent Esther Passaris of ODM, who has held it since 2017. Also in the race are former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo of the Linda Mwananchi group and Millicent Omanga of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
What the Law Says on Certificate Forgery
Presenting a forged certificate is a criminal offence under Kenyan law. Section 349 of the Penal Code provides for up to three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both for making a false document with intent to deceive.
Those charged with forging Kenya National Examinations Council certificates may also face additional charges under the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.
Several police recruits have been caught in similar situations in recent years.
In 2022, ten recruits using fake academic documents were arrested at Kiganjo while still in training.
In April this year, 13 Administration Police recruits were charged at the Milimani law courts with forging KCSE certificates, each facing two counts, and were expelled.
Penalties can escalate significantly for those who use fraudulent documents over a longer period.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has cited a case in which a county worker earned over KSh 9 million in public salary between March 2010 and December 2023 on the strength of forged KCSE papers.
