Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has flagged off the construction of two roads spanning 34.7 kilometres in Birnin Kebbi and Argungu Local Government Areas to improve rural connectivity, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and stimulate economic activities.
The projects comprise the two-kilometre Tarasa–Birnin Kebbi road, expected to be completed within six months, and the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini road in Argungu Local Government Area, with a completion period of 12 months.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
The governor described the projects as strategic investments aimed at connecting communities, improving access to markets and enhancing residents’ livelihoods.
Idris said his administration was committed to extending the benefits of democracy to both urban and rural communities through infrastructure development and programmes designed to improve the welfare of the people.
“My administration is committed to the development of both rural and urban areas. We will continue to provide the people with more dividends of democracy through projects and programmes that improve their welfare and create opportunities for economic advancement,” the governor said.
He added that the administration would sustain its infrastructure development drive to ensure that communities across the state benefit from improved road networks and essential public facilities.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremonies, the Commissioner for Works, Umar Farouk Muslim, commended the governor for approving the projects, saying they would ease transportation challenges and boost economic activities in the benefiting communities.
Muslim particularly emphasised the importance of the Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini road to farmers and rural residents, noting that improved road access would make it easier to transport agricultural produce to markets and reduce the difficulties associated with moving goods.
He said the road would strengthen connectivity among the benefiting communities and support rural economic activities by providing residents with better access to markets and other essential services.
The commissioner disclosed that the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini road had been awarded to ABK Synage Construction Company for completion within 12 months.
He assured residents that the Ministry of Works would monitor the projects to ensure compliance with approved specifications, quality standards and contractual timelines.
Muslim also urged members of the benefiting communities to cooperate with the contractors to ensure the smooth execution and timely completion of the projects.
