Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Naval and fishing communities have been warned not to venture into deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal as a low-pressure system is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 26.
The Department of Meteorology said a new low-pressure area had formed over the Bay of Bengal near the North Andaman Islands.
The system is expected to remain in the same region and develop into a depression by October 24, before moving west-northwestwards and intensifying into a deep depression by October 25.
It is then very likely to develop further into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26, the department said.
Accordingly, naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into deep-sea areas bounded by 10°N–20°N and 80°E–95°E until further notice.
Those already operating in the affected sea areas have been urged to move to safer locations.
The department has also advised naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant and closely follow future weather forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
