Police on Wednesday arrested the medical store owner, Ashwani Kumar, who shot dead an anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Punjab's Mansa district from Rajasthan’s Salasar.
Jhota, known for raising his voice against drug abuse and the illegal sale of addictive substances at chemist shops, was shot dead in broad daylight on Tuesday after confronting Kumar over the alleged sale of drugs to an elderly man.
The confrontation was captured on camera during a live Facebook session hosted by Jhota, bringing the incident into sharp focus.
Kumar fled after the shooting, prompting police to launch a manhunt. On Tuesday, police arrested an associate who allegedly helped him escape.
The killing sent tensions soaring in Mansa, with Jhota’s supporters vandalising the medical shop and his family refusing to cremate his body in protest.
