ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar on Tuesday stated that the imposition of governor’s rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is an illegal measure, ARY News reported.
Talking to ARY News, the PTI chief said his party was going to file a petition against the emergency and governor’s rule in the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Barrister Gohar said their lawyers will file a petition in the PHC against the unconstitutional step. He emphasized that the party will continue its constitutional and legal struggle against the government’s unlawful action.
“We are supporters of democracy and an independent judiciary in the country,” he said, reiterating that imposing governor’s rule and emergency after removing a democratic government is entirely illegal.
It is pertinent to mention that the federal government imposed governor’s rule and an emergency in KP owing to the deteriorating security situation in the province and the stubbornness shown by the provincial PTI government over the long march.
The PTI has been ruling the province since 2013, and the removed administration was the party’s third consecutive government in KP.
