Louis's wife, Deborah Prevost, shared the news with CBS News on Tuesday, October 14, confirming that her husband, who lives in Florida, has been dealing with the blood cancer for several years.
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, as described by the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

After undergoing stem cell treatment and joining a clinical trial in 2019, he reached a point where the disease sat at a "very low level."
That period of relative stability, however, came to an end roughly three months ago when he fell out of remission.
Deborah declined to reveal what stage the cancer is currently at but confirmed Louis is back in a clinical trial at a local hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Despite the gravity of both situations, the brothers are keeping in close contact. Deborah revealed that the Pope called Louis just last week, ahead of his brother's latest clinical trial appointment.
"He called to let us know what would be happening," she said. "We keep praying, keeping spirits up for both of them."

The Vatican confirmed on Tuesday that Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, had undergone surgery to remove a nodular lesion from the lower lobe of his right lung.
The procedure confirmed a diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma. The pontiff is 71 years old.
The Vatican's announcement drew global attention, and the revelation that his older brother is simultaneously undergoing cancer treatment has added another layer of concern for those following the Pope's health.
Deborah said she could not speak to the specifics of the Pope's medical condition but made clear the family is rallying around both men during what is an undeniably testing time.
