The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has dismissed as false claims that it is seeking registration as a political party, following the circulation of a purported letter dated October 9, 2026, addressed to the Electoral Commission.
The letter, bearing the name of the Patriotic League of Uganda Movement (PLUM), seeks the reservation of the name, colours, symbols and slogan for a political party. It lists orange, white and blue as the proposed colours, a handshake as the symbol, and “Protect the Citizens / Linda Mwananchi” as the slogan.
However, PLU General Secretary Twalla Fadil has rejected the claims, insisting that the organisation remains a civic organisation and has no plans to register as a political party.
In a statement, Fadil said the organisation’s political agenda would continue to be pursued exclusively through the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The purported letter, dated October 9, 2026, bears the name of Cankara Moses Mwaka, identified as acting chief promoter, and carries an Electoral Commission receiving stamp dated October 13, 2026.
The document requests the commission to review the proposed identifiers against existing political party registers and provide guidance on the registration process.
However, the existence of a document bearing a receiving stamp does not, on its own, establish that the application was authorised by PLU leadership or that the Electoral Commission has approved the registration of a political party.
PLU has urged its members and the public to disregard the circulating claims and rely on official communications from its leadership.
