An awaiting-trial inmate, identified as Osita Thomas, has reportedly escaped from the Auchi Custodial Centre in Edo state, prompting a search for his whereabouts.
The Nigerian Correctional Service in a public notice dated October 21, 2026, provided details of the inmate to aid his identification.
According to the notice, Thomas is a 28-year-old man, approximately 5.6 feet tall, with a dark complexion.
The notice also described him as an Awaiting Trial Person (ATP) and included his photograph to assist members of the public in identifying him.
However, the circumstances surrounding his escape, including when it occurred and how he left the facility, were not stated in the notice.
The Nigerian Correctional Service was yet to provide further details on the incident in the information made available at the time of filing this report.
