Angelina and Edward Lado first made headlines in 2018 when they claimed $2.5 million from a Multi-Millionaire Scratch 'N Win ticket, setting a record at the time for the largest prize ever awarded through a scratch card in their region, according to Atlantic Lottery.
According to People.com, the win carried deep personal weight for Edward, who revealed it could help him locate his mother, whom he had not seen since infancy and who was living in a refugee camp in Uganda. The couple had resettled in Canada from South Sudan just eleven years before that first win.
How the Second Win Unfolded
Last month, Angelina discovered they had struck lucky again. Edward admitted he initially refused to believe her when she broke the news.
"I thought maybe she was bluffing when she told me; I really couldn't believe it," Edward said in an Atlantic Lottery news release. "I told her to calm down, and when I come home, we will see if it is for real."
This time, the winning ticket was a $4 Scratch 'N Win card carrying a top prize known as "Set for Life." The prize offers winners either $1,000 per week for 25 years or a lump-sum payment of $675,000. The Lados chose the lump sum.
Edward Shares the Couple's Approach to Playing
Having navigated a lottery windfall before, the couple knew exactly what steps to take once the prize was confirmed. Edward credited their continued participation, rather than any special strategy, for the outcome.
"We play but modestly, especially now, but if you don't play, you don't win," he said. "We've purchased bigger tickets and not won anything significant on them, and then Set for Life costs just $4, and we did."
As for what comes next, Edward said the couple are not rushing into any decisions.
"We will think about anything else along the way, but for now we are just digesting the moment and letting it sink in," he said. "We don't want to rush into anything; taking our time is the best option, and things will fall into place as life progresses."
Kenyan DV Lottery Winner Speaks
In other news, TUKO also highlighted facts about Emily Ann, a Kenyan DV Lottery winner who kept her news private until she had her US visa in hand.
Her mother’s request to take the document to church for prayers sparked a humorous exchange, and a wider debate about whether big wins should be shared or kept quiet.
