Prince Harry insisted that he wants to reconcile with his brother, Prince William, but noted that “some people don’t want” their family issues to work out.
“I want it to work out. Of course I do,” the Duke of Sussex said in an on-camera interview with GQ published Tuesday. “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point.”
Harry, 42, told the interviewer that he “of course” grieves being estranged from his older sibling.
“Again, another massively relatable issue for so many people,” he explained. “There’s siblings disagreements. Broken relationships between kids and their parents. That continues to come with me the whole time with people I speak to.”
“So I know how relatable it is,” Harry said. “That’s probably why there’s so much fascination.”
The “Spare” author encouraged people to “let go of the past” to heal rifts with their family.
“Scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That’s something that I would encourage everybody to do,” he explained. “If there’s certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that’s harder to let go of.”
Harry added, “But, for me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives to continue with issues with family.”
When the interviewer told Harry that family fallouts are “not worth it,” Harry replied, “That’s hard to say to people when you’re in it.”
Harry has been estranged from William and his sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, ever since he trashed the royal family in his memoir, “Spare,” and in his and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary.
The two couples are still at odds despite Harry and Markle, 45, moving back to the UK with their two kids in August.
