Prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket together recorded their highest-ever weekly crypto trading volume.
Kalshi and Polymarket together recorded $2.7 billion in weekly crypto trading volume, according to reporting from CryptoBriefing and Bitcoin.com News. The figure represents a record high for the two platforms combined. Both outlets attributed much of the activity to bettors placing wagers tied to Bitcoin price movements and related crypto events.
Kalshi and Polymarket operate as prediction markets, allowing users to trade on the outcome of specific events. Participants buy and sell contracts tied to yes-or-no questions, with prices reflecting the market's estimated probability of an outcome. Crypto prices, regulatory decisions, and macroeconomic events have become popular categories on both platforms.
The two platforms differ in structure and regulatory status. Kalshi operates as a regulated exchange under oversight from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in the United States. Polymarket runs primarily on blockchain infrastructure and has drawn a global user base, including traders outside U.S. jurisdiction. Despite these differences, both have expanded their crypto-related offerings over the past year.
The record volume comes amid broader growth in prediction markets as an asset class adjacent to traditional crypto trading. Event-based contracts have attracted both retail traders and larger market participants seeking exposure to short-term price swings without directly holding the underlying asset. Volume on these platforms has fluctuated alongside broader crypto market volatility.
Neither CryptoBriefing nor Bitcoin.com News specified a precise breakdown of volume between the two platforms. The reporting also did not detail which individual contracts or events drove the bulk of trading activity during the week in question. Readers should treat the combined figure as the total reported, pending further breakdowns from either platform.
The milestone arrives as prediction markets continue to draw regulatory and industry attention. U.S. regulators have scrutinized the legal status of event contracts tied to financial outcomes, while platforms like Polymarket have faced questions in some jurisdictions over their compliance posture. The record volume may renew discussion over how these markets should be classified and overseen going forward.
Market Impact
A record weekly volume figure signals rising trader appetite for event-based crypto products, potentially drawing more liquidity and new entrants into the prediction market sector. It may also prompt competitors to expand crypto-linked contract offerings to capture a share of this growing trading activity.
For regulators, sustained growth in crypto-linked prediction markets could accelerate scrutiny of how such contracts are classified and supervised. Market participants should note that prediction market volume figures reflect trading activity on event outcomes, not direct spot or derivatives trading in the underlying cryptocurrencies themselves.
The $2.7 billion figure marks a notable milestone for crypto-linked prediction markets, though further details on platform-specific breakdowns and driving factors remain to be reported.
