Transocean stock closed on Monday, October 19, 2026, at $5.89, up 4.8%, above its daily upper Bollinger band and key exponential averages. The session opened at $5.72, traded between a low of $5.69 and a high of $5.98, and closed at $5.89, against a previous close of $5.62. The bullish daily bias faces a test: the daily EMA alignment is incomplete and the 15-minute MACD offers no positive separation.

Transocean stock: Daily evidence favors the bullish case
The close stands above the 20-session EMA at $5.55 and the 50-session EMA at $5.56. It also holds above the 200-session EMA at $5.42. This supports a constructive price position. However, the 20-session average remains below the 50-session average, so the daily chart does not have a fully bullish EMA alignment.
Meanwhile, daily RSI14 rose to 61.9 from 53.88, placing it above neutral but below overbought territory. At the same time, the daily MACD line is 0.03, above its signal at -0.02. Its histogram increased to 0.05 from 0.03, supporting the bullish daily reading.
The close also sits above the daily upper Bollinger band at $5.80, with the mid-band at $5.46 and lower band at $5.11. That position supports the bullish bias but leaves the close outside the band envelope. Meanwhile, daily ATR14 increased to $0.22 from $0.21, indicating a larger measured trading range than in the preceding reading.
RIG: Hourly confirmation, with a short-term qualification
The hourly chart confirms the daily bias more cleanly. The closing price stands above the 20-hour EMA at $5.72, followed by the 50-hour EMA at $5.63 and 200-hour EMA at $5.60. Price and those averages are fully aligned bullishly.
Meanwhile, hourly RSI14 is 68.69, below the overbought threshold. The hourly MACD line at 0.08 exceeds its signal at 0.05, with a positive histogram of 0.03. Separately, the close sits below the hourly upper Bollinger band at $5.94 and above the mid-band at $5.67. Hourly ATR14 is $0.09, providing the range context for those nearby levels.
15-minute chart offers a qualified timing signal
In contrast, the 15-minute chart gives a more qualified timing signal. RSI14 slipped to 59.93 from 62.74, although it remains above neutral. The MACD line and signal both stand at 0.05, leaving the histogram at 0. This does not contradict the daily bullish bias, but it offers no positive MACD separation for execution timing.
The close remains above the 15-minute 20-period EMA at $5.85, 50-period EMA at $5.77 and 200-period EMA at $5.62. It also sits between the 15-minute Bollinger mid-band at $5.85 and upper band at $5.94. With 15-minute ATR14 at $0.05, this timeframe is useful for timing rather than defining the broader thesis.
Contract awards provide company-specific context
Before Monday’s open, Transocean announced awards for two ultra-deepwater drillships in the U.S. Gulf. Its release put the combined firm contract backlog at approximately $550 million, according to Yahoo Finance. A report published after Monday’s close also covered those awards.
Bullish and bearish scenarios for the next session
When trading resumes, the daily pivot sits at $5.85, with first resistance at $6.02 and first support at $5.73. The hourly and 15-minute charts each have a next-session pivot at $5.90, first resistance at $5.92 and first support at $5.87. These are forward reference levels derived from each timeframe’s last completed candle.
Bullish scenario
The bullish scenario requires holding the daily pivot at $5.85 and clearing the hourly and 15-minute pivots at $5.90. Beyond their first resistance at $5.92, the hourly and 15-minute upper bands at $5.94 provide the next reference. Clearing the session high at $5.98 would strengthen the case against daily first resistance at $6.02.
Bearish scenario
Conversely, a break below hourly and 15-minute first support at $5.87 would put the daily pivot at $5.85 in focus. Losing the daily upper band at $5.80 would weaken the bullish case. A break below daily first support at $5.73 would undermine its near-term support structure, with the daily averages at $5.56 and $5.55 below.
Overall, Transocean stock stands above its daily averages and upper band, but below the session high and next-session daily resistance. Daily ATR14 at $0.22 frames the volatility. Whether the bullish daily and hourly readings can overcome the neutral 15-minute MACD remains unresolved.
