Telemedicine, remote monitoring and clinical information platforms are opening up opportunities for new businesses and can facilitate access to healthcare services in communities facing geographical barriers. For this reason, attracting investment to develop technologies that bring medical care closer to more Colombians is one of the opportunities offered by digital health.
Concrete figures reveal this new reality. According to estimates by Statista, a global market intelligence platform and online statistics portal that collects, analyzes and visualizes data from more than 170 industries and 150 countries, revenues in the Colombian digital health market reached US$512 million in 2025. During that year, approximately 1.2 million people used telemedicine services.
Colombia advances in digital infrastructure
The opportunity also has an international dimension. Mordor Intelligence, a global market research, consulting and strategic analysis company, projects that the global digital health market will grow from US$405.99 billion in 2026 to US$884.43 billion in 2031, with a compound annual growth rate of 16.85%.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and ProColombia have set their sights on these figures to promote the country as an investment destination for higher value-added technological activities.
Telemedicine can facilitate consultations and specialized assessments without requiring patients to travel to large cities. Remote monitoring can support the follow-up of chronic diseases, while the secure exchange of medical records can improve coordination between institutions and continuity of treatment.
Colombia is advancing its digital infrastructure to support these services. The Ministry of Health reported that more than 2,400 public and private facilities were operating the national electronic health record interoperability mechanism, through which more than 7.7 million clinical records had been securely exchanged.
In addition, Resolution 1644 of 2026 updated the conditions for providing telehealth and telemedicine services, with measures aimed at strengthening healthcare and reducing barriers, especially in rural and remote areas.
Investment in these solutions can drive businesses and specialized jobs, as well as facilitate timely access to medical services. To achieve this, their implementation must be sustainable and respond to the needs of patients and healthcare providers, including populations facing the greatest difficulties in accessing care.
A business ecosystem with potential for expansion
The Colombia Tech Report 2025-2026, prepared by KPMG and its partners, identified 202 startups in the Healthtech, Wellness & Life Sciences category, equivalent to 9% of the technology ventures included in the study.
This category ranks third in terms of the number of companies and brings together telemedicine solutions, hospital software, connected devices, remote monitoring and artificial intelligence applied to healthcare.
The report also recorded US$11 million in venture capital investment across seven healthtech deals during 2025. A total of 95% of the capital raised by startups in the segment was concentrated in three companies.
According to figures from the Ministry of National Education, Colombia recorded 134,138 graduates in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in 2025, including 46,097 graduates from software and information technology programs.
This talent pool can support specialized software projects, data analysis, artificial intelligence and applied research, as well as solutions for hospital management, diagnosis and patient monitoring with potential for international expansion.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and ProColombia are working to promote these capabilities among international investors. Opportunities include specialized software, artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, research and development, and exportable technology services.
The goal is for the arrival of capital to boost Colombian companies capable of competing internationally and technologies that help improve healthcare and expand access to health services.
