Ferrari’s first electric car, the Luce, will start at $560,800 in the US, with American deliveries planned for the second quarter of 2027. Car and Driver first reported the figure, and Ferrari has confirmed it.
That’s roughly $80,000 under the ~$640,000 number that has followed the Luce since its unveiling in May, including in our own coverage. But Americans aren’t getting a deal.
Where the $640,000 came from
Ferrari didn’t give a US price when it launched the Luce in Rome on May 25. It gave a European one: €550,000. Most outlets, us included, ran that through the exchange rate of the day, about $1.16 per euro, and got to roughly $640,000.
The problem is that European car prices are normally quoted with VAT included, and Italy’s rate is 22%.
Take the tax out and the Luce costs about €450,800 in Italy. At today’s rate of roughly $1.12 per euro, that’s around $506,000. So the US price is about $55,000 higher than what an Italian buyer pays before taxes, and American buyers still owe state sales tax on top of the $560,800.
Some of that gap is trade policy. European-built cars now face a 15% US tariff, and Ferrari already raised prices on part of its US lineup last year to cover it. The $560,800 also doesn’t include options, and Ferrari hasn’t published what those cost. Nobody buys a base Ferrari.
Sold out before the first US delivery
None of this will slow sales. Ferrari sold out its 2026 Luce allocation of just under 500 units in less than two months, with China doing a lot of the heavy lifting. In August, the first production chassis went for $40 million at a charity auction for the Ferrari Foundation.
That’s despite a rough reveal. The design, done with Jony Ive and Marc Newson’s LoveFrom, got hammered online, and Ferrari’s stock dropped sharply in the days after the launch before recovering.
The hardware is serious. The Luce uses four motors, one per wheel, for 1,035 hp combined. It’s built on an 800V architecture with a 122 kWh battery pack from SK On, charges at up to 350 kW, and Ferrari rates it at 529 km (329 miles) WLTP. It does 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and weighs 2,260 kg (4,982 lb). It’s also Ferrari’s first five-seater.
For comparison, a Lucid Air Sapphire with over 1,200 hp costs around $250,000. You could buy two and still have change left over.
Electrek’s Take
The bigger story is that the price clearly doesn’t matter to Ferrari’s buyers. Plenty of luxury brands have convinced themselves that wealthy buyers won’t pay supercar money for an electric car. Maserati killed the electric MC20 Folgore over exactly that fear. Ferrari just put a $560,800 sticker on a four-door EV with a polarizing design and sold out a year of production anyway.
We’re not convinced every one of those orders comes from love of the car. Ferrari’s allocation game rewards loyal customers, and some buyers are surely taking a Luce to stay in line for the next limited-run V12. But a deposit is a deposit.
The real test comes in 2027 and 2028, once the first wave of collectors has its cars and the Luce has to sell on its own merits. Will it?
Personally, I hope that the Luce leads to Ferrari trying to make some electric sports cars.
If you’re buying an EV, even one that costs a lot less than a Ferrari, powering it with home solar can cut your fuel costs to nearly zero. With electricity rates up almost 10% last year and expected to keep climbing, going solar is one of the best ways to protect yourself against rising costs. And with lease and PPA options, you can do it with zero upfront cost and start saving immediately. If you want to find the best deal, check out EnergySage.
