The Golden State Warriors have waived Alex Toohey, Dalen Terry and Tyler Burton ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, with Toohey’s release attracting attention after an appearance at the WNBA Finals.
Golden State confirmed the three moves as it finalised its roster ahead of its season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors head into the new campaign looking to bounce back after losing to the Phoenix Suns in last season’s play-in tournament.
Steve Kerr’s side finished its pre-season with a 128-118 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Now, the focus shifts to getting the roster ready for the opening night clash with Luka Doncic and the Lakers.
Alex Toohey waived shortly after being recognised at WNBA Finals
Toohey’s departure caught the eye because it came shortly after the Australian was recognised at Chase Center during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.
According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, the Golden State Valkyries saluted several Warriors players on the arena’s JumboTron during their Finals game. Around 30 minutes later, Golden State announced that Toohey had been waived alongside Terry and Burton.
The timing prompted attention, although all three moves were part of the Warriors’ preparations for the regular season.
Terry is the most experienced of the trio. The 24-year-old was selected 18th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft and has played 218 NBA games, primarily with the Chicago Bulls, before spells with the New York Knicks, New Orleans Pelicans and Philadelphia 76ers.
He appeared in five pre-season games for Golden State, averaging 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 14 minutes per game.

Despite his NBA experience, Terry was waived as the Warriors settled their roster. Reports suggest he could join the team’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, alongside Burton and Toohey.
Golden State has also retained Brandon Williams, whose contract will become partially guaranteed when he remains on the roster for opening night. His pre-season performances helped him keep his place.
The Warriors now turn their attention to Wednesday’s opener against the Lakers, with Stephen Curry and his team looking to start the new campaign strongly.
