GUWAHATI, Oct 11
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized methamphetamine tablets worth approximately Rs 43 crore from two trucks in Assam's Guwahati, uncovering specially fabricated concealed cavities inside their fuel tanks that were allegedly used to smuggle the drugs.
Two men from Manipur have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
The operation was carried out by the NCB's Guwahati Zonal Unit on October 6, 2026, following specific intelligence inputs. Officials intercepted the two trucks and conducted detailed searches, during which they discovered 53.937 kg of methamphetamine, also referred to as WY tablets, concealed inside the vehicles.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the drug consignment originated in Myanmar, pointing to a possible cross-border trafficking network.
According to the NCB, the two trucks had specially fabricated concealed cavities built inside their fuel tanks. The hidden compartments were designed to conceal the contraband and evade detection by law enforcement agencies.
Acting on intelligence inputs, NCB personnel intercepted both vehicles in Guwahati and carried out systematic searches that led to the recovery of the drug consignment.
The seized 53.937 kg of methamphetamine tablets has an estimated illicit market value of approximately Rs 43 crore, making it a major drug seizure for the agency.
The NCB has arrested two men in connection with the operation. Both are residents of Bishnupur district in Manipur.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment originated in Myanmar. The agency is now working to establish how the drugs were transported and identify those involved in moving the consignment across the border and through domestic routes.
Investigators are pursuing leads to map the entire supply chain behind the seizure. The probe is aimed at identifying international suppliers, domestic receivers, financiers and logistics handlers suspected of being part of the trafficking network.
The agency is seeking to dismantle the wider syndicate involved in the move- ment of narcotics, rather than limiting the investigation to the two arrested suspects and the seized consignment. India Today
