Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District, Titus Zam, on Friday distributed 900 empowerment items to constituents as part of his sixth major empowerment programme aimed at promoting self-reliance, job creation and economic opportunities.
The items, comprising 180 motorcycles, 320 sewing machines, 300 grinding machines, 60 power hand tillers and 40 car-wash pumping machines, were presented to beneficiaries at an event in Makurdi where Zam urged them to deploy the equipment productively to generate income and create opportunities for others.
He noted that the latest intervention builds on previous programmes covering leatherwork, hairdressing, pepper cultivation and dry-season rice farming, as well as scholarships for 350 indigent students, fertiliser distribution, food assistance for vulnerable households and relief materials for internally displaced persons.
Zam, who also listed constituency projects such as the construction of classrooms, clinics, police stations and roads alongside the provision of motorised boreholes, electricity extensions and solar-powered streetlights, commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the North Central Development Commission as a strategic vehicle for grassroots development.
While expressing optimism that Tinubu’s re-election would be straightforward, Zam urged beneficiaries to regard the equipment as valuable economic assets and maintain them properly to establish sustainable sources of income, assuring constituents of his ongoing commitment to visible, practical interventions that foster shared prosperity.
He thanked the NCDC Chairman, Dr Cosmas Akighir, and Managing Director Dr Cyril Tsenyil for sponsoring the programme, as well as Senate President Godswill Akpabio for appointing him pioneer Chairman of the Senate Committee on the NCDC and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for his guidance.
Speaking at the same event, the Benue state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Austin Agada, who also serves as National Secretary of the Rainbow Coalition movement led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared that the coalition would mobilise massive votes for Tinubu, Zam and Akume in the 2027 general elections.
Agada commended Zam for his consistent commitment to his constituents, recalling that he had attended three of the senator’s empowerment programmes including one held within his first few months in office, and said the lawmaker had adequately represented the party despite distractions from individuals who had brought it into disrepute.
