Mazda says the body structure uses more high-tensile steel to improve rigidity and accompanied by a newly developed suspension.
BERMAZ MOTOR has officially launched the third-generation Mazda CX-5 in Malaysia, offered for now in a single 2.5G 2WD High specification at RM171,510 on-the-road without insurance for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia.
Fully imported from Mazda’s Hiroshima plant in Japan, the new CX-5 marks a change from the previous locally assembled model, with the third-generation SUV arriving here as a CBU.
Under the bonnet is Mazda’s naturally aspirated 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 185hp and 257Nm. Drive is sent exclusively to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
The third-generation CX-5 measures 4,690mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,695mm tall, with a 2,815mm wheelbase and 200mm of ground clearance. Kerb weight is listed at 1,683kg.
A longer body and wheelbase have also been used to improve interior space. Mazda says rear knee clearance has increased by 64mm, while rear headroom grows by 29mm.
The rear door opening is 70mm wider, and the cargo floor has been extended by approximately 45mm to make it easier to carry larger items upright.

Styling remains recognisably CX-5, but Mazda has given the SUV a broader and more upright appearance.
The front receives a redesigned Signature Wing between slimmer double light units, while the rear gains new linear LED graphics and prominent MAZDA lettering. The Malaysian 2.5G High rides on 19-inch black metallic alloy wheels with 225/55 tyres.
Other exterior equipment includes LED headlights with signature illumination, LED daytime running lights and taillights, rain-sensing wipers, heated and auto-dimming side mirrors with memory and auto-folding functions, front and rear parking sensors, roof rails, a power tailgate, and a panoramic glass sunroof with sliding and tilt functions.
Inside, one of the biggest changes is a new 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, while a head-up display is also standard.
The Malaysian CX-5 also gets a 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, front and rear USB-C ports, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, seven-colour ambient lighting, and a 360-degree View Monitor with See-Through View and an underfloor view function.
Leather upholstery is finished in Sport Tan, with a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory, a six-way powered front passenger seat, and ventilation for both front seats.
The rear bench uses a 40:20:40 split-folding arrangement and also offers manual reclining adjustment.
Underneath, the CX-5 continues with MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear.
Mazda says the body structure uses more high-tensile steel to improve rigidity, accompanied by a newly developed suspension, revised steering behaviour, G-Vectoring Control Plus, and changes aimed at improving braking feel and NVH.
The safety package includes front, side, curtain, and driver’s knee airbags alongside ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Launch Assist, and Auto Hold.
Mazda’s i-Activsense suite adds Adaptive LED Headlights, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear and Front Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane-keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert with Driver Monitoring, Emergency Lane Keeping, and Smart Brake Support covering front, rear, intersection, crossing traffic, head-on collision, and low-speed object scenarios.
Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Cruising & Traffic Support are also included.
Five colours are listed for Malaysia: Rhodium White, Soul Red Crystal, Jet Black, Navy Blue, and Aero Gray. Navy Blue and Aero Gray are new additions to the CX-5 colour palette.
The new CX-5 comes with a five-year or 100,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and five years or 100,000km of free scheduled maintenance, whichever comes first. The maintenance programme covers labour, parts, and lubricants.
